RouteIQ Knowledge Center
How bread route ordering works.
Good weekly ordering is a store-by-store decision. Recent sales matter, but so do returns, promotions, holidays, weather, display changes and the operator's knowledge of what is happening next week.
1. Start with store-level history
A route-wide percentage change can hide very different store patterns. Review recent movement and returns at each store before changing next week's quantity.
2. Treat returns as a signal, not a command
High returns may support a reduction, but the reason matters. A promotion ending, a temporary display, a holiday week or an unusual delivery pattern can make last week a poor baseline.
3. Add known forward-looking events
- Promotions and rollback activity.
- Weather that can materially affect store traffic.
- Holidays and unusual shopping weeks.
- Known store events, display changes or closures.
4. Keep the owner in control
A recommendation should be reviewable before anything is sent. The operator should be able to see the proposed change, understand the reason, adjust it and approve it store by store.
